“I really wanted this piece to be about love. Charles Eisenstein (author of the “The more beautiful world our heart knows is possible”, and more recently “Climate”) speaks of love as a widening of our sense of self, an expansion of the boundaries of our identity. For me that is exactly the sort of transformation you undergo as you become a parent. In these unprecedented times of global change, this is also what is asked of us as inhabitants of this planet – to redefine ourselves in relation to Gaia as to feel her as an extension of ourselves rather than an outer environment which is separate from us. This sense of interbeingness is an essential lesson I received from the sea and the cetaceans. For me this is what OneHome is about: sharing the urgency of falling back in love with the Living Earth, our beautiful home planet.” said Leina Sato.
« Leina has a unique relationship with our Mother Earth and the Ocean. Through her poetry and free-diving art with dolphins, she has reached a level of connection with our home planet rarely encountered. For the OneHome team, Leina incarnates the values and worldview that we would like to spread. In this marvelous poem dedicated to the Earth and her recently born son, she shares with us the essence of her experience. We are so honored to count Leina among us » said Jean-Pierre Goux, president of OneHome.
« Man has an aquatic nature; in the same way the primordial Ocean gave birth to life on our planet, our human incarnation also begins in the ocean of the maternal womb. Free-diving allows us to reconnect with this living matrix and a deep sense of communion with the world. This deep experience is very similar to the one experienced by astronauts, when they saw the Earth from outside. I am very happy to contribute to the OneHome project with this poem and video. » added Leina Sato.
Leina Sato is an international Freedive Instructor, Author, International Speaker and Underwater Videographer. Leina is also a member of the OneHome advisory board since the creation of our NGO.
Leina Sato was the subject of the documentary film « The Journey - Mother Ocean » from film makers Jan Kounen and Anne Paris. During her pregrancy, she traveled along with her husband, underwater photographer Jean-Marie Ghislain, around the world, swimming with whales and dolphins that felt the presence of her child to be born. The film focuses on the last four months of this trip until she delivers. It depicts the couple’s desire to share their love of the Sea with their future child and explore the emergent field of inter-species communication (i.e. the capacity of odontocetes to communicate with a human fœtus by use of their sonar.)
