This video (english subtitles available when pressing CC button) combines the NASA/DSCOVR images of the Earth from Lagrangian point L1 with simulations of our solar system and galaxy from her movie "Cosmic Flows. The cartographers of the universe ». The experience ends with a unique rendering of the Laniakea supercluster.

"When we contemplate Earth from a Laniakean perspective, we realize life is both a privilege and a responsibility. We must do everything to protect this marvel", said astrophysicist and cosmographer Hélène Courtois.

About Hélène Courtois

Hélène Courtois is a French astrophysicist. Professor at University Claude Bernard Lyon 1, she conducts her research at Lyon Physics Institute of the 2 Infinites (IP2I) . She is best known for her investigations into the dynamic cosmography of the Universe. Her work has focused on the distribution of matter in the large-scale structures of the Universe. In 2006, she was part of the group of scientists who confirmed the acceleration of the Universe's expansion. In 2014, she offered a new definition of the concept of galaxy superclusters, and identified the Laniakea Supercluster, an aggregate that is bigger than the historical Virgo Supercluster by a factor of 100. In 2018, she received the "Eureka" prize inScience communication. She was also awarded the title of "Most Influential French Scientist of the Year" by the French Foreign Affairs ministry. In 2020 she was named knight in the Legion of honour.
